Sant Bartomeu 2019 Festivities
With the idea of promoting the festivities with new activities and at the same time consolidating the most traditional, this year’s programme presents several novelties such as s’Ou Festival, a tortilla contest in a summer meeting between friends and family where the eggs will be the main protagonists and live music by Flor de Higuera, in s’Arenal on August 31st. Teams interested in participating can register at the Kantaun bar and will be eligible for the prize for the largest tortilla and the most friendly or fun group.
Among the novelties, one of the highlights is the party ‘Ham and flamenco’ that will take place behind the church on August 17th, or the first Regatta Loca San Bartolomé, which will be held on August 25th at Caló des Moro at 11.30 am and is open to participants of all ages. In a distance of approximately 200 meters, the crew must compete with a homemade boat, in which the most important thing will be to go disguised and that the boat doesn’t sink.
As for music, this year there’s a strong commitment to local groups. The most outstanding performance will be that of the new band of Joan Barbé and David Serra, Joven Dolores, who with their live concert will put an end to the Fiesta of Carthaginians and Romans on September 7th at Arenal beach, where the Ibizan group Morning Drivers will perform previously. In addition, on August 18th the band Bluesmafia and Es Saligardos will offer a concert at 10 pm to conclude the Earth Festivities at Paseo de Ses Fonts.
The programme also includes the most traditional festivities, such as the big day of San Bartolomé on August 24th, with the mass, procession and dance by the folk group Brisa de Portmany, which this year will be accompanied by the group of dance Egunsenti dance Taldea de Mundaka (Basque Country). The day will end with a great party by La Movida in s’Arenal, with DJs Vázquez and Petit, who will perform for the first time outdoors in their village, and the traditional fireworks of San Bartolomé, which will have 350 kilos of gunpowder.
This programme also consolidates other festivities with great success such as the great battle of tomatoes of the XV Festivity of the Carthaginians and Romans, on September 6th and 7th, which this year will have the participation of a group of slingers from Cartagena and with an association of Moors and Christians that will accompany the arrival of the two troops.
