SAN LORENZO

SAN LORENZO

The ancient village of San Lorenzo de Balafia, often known as Balàfia, offers a very good example of traditional Ibicencan architecture. The name comes from a past time, when it was a Moorish town. The oldest part of the town consists of seven houses that include two refuge towers and two "trulls" (Olive Oil Press). Before reaching the group of houses you can see an old well. The original builders believed in force through numbers, as shown by the way in which this settlement was built, with the houses in close proximity to each other. The seven houses are strung out along a gently sloping ridge running from north to south.

There is a bar in the village, a restaurant with homemade Mediterranean food, La Paloma and also a park with a picnic spot next to the church. In the vicinity you will also find the interpretation center "Es Amunts" and some of the best local food restaurants.

WHY VISIT IT?

'Es Amunts' is considered the entire north of the island of Ibiza, due to its natural features, full of cliffs, mountains and torrents that goes from Cala San Vicente to almost the town of San Antonio, occupies an approximate area of 15,000ha, a quarter of the island of Ibiza.
In the area of Es Amunts the highest average altitudes of the archipelago are accumulated, its coasts are composed of cliffs, except urban areas, beaches and coves, some of them with difficult access. The entire area of Amunts is more than 100 meters above sea level, with mountains reaching 400 meters, making this area less populated.
